Set in 1984 at the height of the Cold War, Echoes at Alpha drops players into a desperate race on the West German border. OP Alpha — a lonely, fortified U.S. observation post manned by troopers of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment — has just gone dark. Soviet electronic warfare units are jamming NATO frequencies across the sector, and enemy forces are already closing in.
Inside the tower, a small watch team has one last hope: a burst transmitter. Secure, encrypted, and short-range, it may be the only way to alert higher command before the outpost is overrun. Meanwhile, a returning reconnaissance patrol crests the ridge just in time to see Soviet muzzle flashes at the edge of the compound.
They're outnumbered. They're outgunned. But they are not surprised.
The scenario is drawn from our Fulda Firestorm scenario book, featuring the iconic OP Alpha watchtower as the central terrain piece — a beautifully detailed model that gives the game a real sense of place and stakes.
Here's where things get really special.
We'll be running Echoes at Alpha in a Double Blind format, and if you've never experienced this style of play, prepare to have your mind blown.
Here's how it works:
Two identical tables are set up side by side, separated by a screen.
The U.S. player commands their forces on one table. The Soviet player commands theirs on the other.
Neither side can see the other's table.
A dedicated gamemaster moves between the two tables, tracking what each side can actually observe and updating unit positions accordingly.
The result? Genuine fog of war. You don't know exactly where the enemy is. You don't know what's coming around that treeline. You have to communicate, plan, and react — all with incomplete information, just like the real thing.
It creates tension, surprise, and moments of pure chaos that you simply can't replicate in a standard face-to-face game. Players have described it as one of the most immersive tabletop experiences they've ever had.
We'll be running games across two full days at Adepticon, and we'd love to have you pull up a chair, roll some dice, or just stop by to see what Double Blind is all about.
